Houston Texans sign quarterback Josh McCown, 41, to active roster

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans have signed quarterback Josh McCown to the active roster, according to his agent Mike McCartney.

McCown was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad, where he was taking part in meetings from his home in East Texas. McCown, the oldest practice squad player in league history at age 41, was an insurance policy for the Eagles, serving as a mentor for Carson Wentz and as an emergency quarterback in case one of Philadelphia's signal-callers tested positive for the coronavirus.

McCown joins quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and AJ McCarron on Houston's active roster.

McCown spent the 2019 season with the Eagles, playing in three games, including the wild-card game loss to the Seattle Seahawks after Wentz left in the first quarter with a concussion.
