Right tackle Kelvin Beachum returns to Arizona Cardinals on 2-year deal

TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona Cardinals solidified their right tackle position for the next couple of seasons by agreeing to a two-year contract with Kelvin Beachum on Tuesday.

Beachum, 31, signed with the Cardinals last July and then went on to start all 16 games at right tackle after Marcus Gilbert opted out of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

By bringing Beachum back, Arizona now has four of its five starting lineman from last season under contract for next season. The only one not under contract is right guard J.R. Sweezy, who is scheduled to become a free agent Wednesday.

Beachum was only one of two starters, along with left tackle D.J. Humphries, to start every game for Arizona. He was part of an offensive line that allowed 29 sacks last season, down from 50 in 2019.

Beachum, who also has played for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets in his nine NFL seasons, has started in 115 of the 120 games in which he has played.
