Pick-six by Bobby McCain puts Washington Football Team in control against Giants

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- The Washington Football Team's offense couldn't generate enough points despite controlling the game against the New York Giants on Sunday. So the defense decided to help them out.

Late in the third quarter, Washington safety Bobby McCain stepped in front of a pass intended for tight end Evan Engram and sprinted 30 yards for a touchdown. Washington failed on the two-point conversion, but it still produced a 12-0 lead.

Washington's offense had managed just two field goals in the first half, despite outgaining New York 177-48 in the opening two quarters.

So it needed a boost from the defense. McCain provided it, giving Washington its second defensive touchdown this season, and first since linebacker Cole Holcomb returned an interception for a touchdown in a Dec. 15 loss to Dallas.

Sunday, Washington blitzed safety Jeremy Reaves off the Giants' right side. That prompted McCain to creep up from his deep half position to cover Engram, aligned inside and cutting to the outside.

It was McCain's third interception of the season.
