NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee Titans cornerback L'Jarius Sneed will not play in Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions, coach Brian Callahan said Friday.
Sneed took a knee to the quad in Tennessee's Week 6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. The veteran cornerback hasn't practiced since the injury and didn't play last week against the Buffalo Bills. Callahan said the injury is taking longer than anticipated to heal from.
"It was worse than initially thought for him once we got some of the imaging done that it's taking a little longer to heal than just a bruise," Callahan said.
Sneed was acquired by the Titans from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick. Tennessee quickly signed him to a four-year, $76.4 million deal.
This came after the team signed veteran cornerback Chidobe Awuzie signed to a three-year, $36 million deal at the start of free agency. Neither corner will be available for the Titans this week.
Rookie Jarvis Brownlee Jr. has started the past three games in place of Awuzie, who has been on injured reserve because of a groin injury suffered in Week 3. Cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. started in place of Sneed last week.
The Titans also gave rookie Gabe Jeudy-Lally the standard elevation from the practice squad for last week's game.
