Wellington Hurricanes' prop Kevin Yates was fortunate to escape the scrutiny of the South African citings commissioner yesterday.
Television coverage of the Hurricanes' match against the Stormers in Cape Town on Sunday, clearly showed the Englishman landing a flurry of blows at a maul late in the game.
Yates was sent off earlier in the season, and subsequently suspended for two matches, after being involved in a punch-up with Cats' hooker Leon Boshoff.
It is difficult to understand how none of the three match officials failed to spot the incident and how the commissioner was unable to identify the culprit.
There were a number of other incidents involving the Hurricanes' Matua Parkinson, Filo Tiatia and Inoke Afeaki which suggest that the Hurricanes have failed to get to grips with the disciplinary problems which have so bedevilled their season.
Jonah Lomu is currently serving a two-match suspension for his sending off against the Waratahs.
