WWE announced Sunday that they had come to terms on the releases of Emma, Darren Young and Summer Rae.
Emma, real name Tenille Dashwood, began her WWE career in Florida Championship Wrestling , the WWE's developmental system at the time. When FCW was re-branded to NXT, Emma was a featured component of their women's division. She advanced to the finals of a tournament to crown the inaugural NXT women's champion in 2013, where she lost to Paige.
She was promoted to the main roster in January of 2014 and performed in her first match on Monday Night Raw in February of the same year. After minimal success, she transitioned back to NXT before returning to the main roster in March 2016. Most recently, Emma had a pair of matches with the newly-debuted Asuka at the TLC pay-per-view and the following night on Monday Night Raw.
Shortly after announcing Emma's release, the WWE sent out a second press release on Sunday afternoon disclosing the releases of Young and Summer Rae.
Summer Rae, real name Danielle Moinet, like Emma, began her WWE career in FCW and NXT. She made her main roster debut on the Apr. 22, 2013 episode of Monday Night Raw as the dance partner for Fandango. She has been out of action for over a year, having not performed in a match since August of 2016.
Outside of the ring, Summer Rae began her film career in 2015 with a role in WWE Studios' "The Marine 4: Moving Target," alongside fellow WWE superstar Mike "The Miz" Mizanin.
Following some brief appearances in the WWE in 2005 and 2006, Darren Young, real name Fred Rosser III, signed a WWE developmental contract in 2009 and also began his career in FCW. He took part in the first season of NXT, which was initially structured as a competition in which NXT rookies, who were paired with WWE veterans, competed to earn a WWE contract; Young's pro was former WWE champion CM Punk.
After officially debuting with the WWE as part of a memorable Nexus invasion of Monday Night Raw, the pinnacle of Young's WWE career occurred on June 14, 2015, when he and tag team partner Titus O'Neil, known collectively as the Prime Time Players, captured the WWE tag team championships at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Young's last in-ring television appearance was in January of this year, thought he had recently returned to the road to perform at Live Events in September, and appeared alongside The Miz, Becky Lynch and Enzo Amore during a WWE-themed night at an LA Clippers game Saturday night.
In 2013, Young publicly announced that he was gay, making him the first openly gay WWE superstar under contract.
While there have been several WWE releases over the course of the past year, including Eva Marie, Austin Aries, Simon Gotch and Jack Swagger, there hasn't been a day with multiple releases since May 6, 2016, when Wade Barrett, Damien Sandow, Santino Marella, Alex Riley, Cameron, El Torito, Hornswoggle and Zeb Coulter were all let go.
