Green Bay Packers depth chart: RB pecking order undecided

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- With free agency and the draft completed and OTAs and minicamps scheduled for the next month and a half, here's a closer look at the depth chart for the Green Bay Packers:

OFFENSE

Note: Starters in bold

Quarterback: Aaron Rodgers, Brett Hundley, DeShone Kizer, Tim Boyle

The trade for Kizer means there's a full-fledged competition for the backup job after Hundley's wildly inconsistent play last season following Rodgers' broken collarbone. Kizer lost all 15 of his starts for the Browns last year as a rookie and must improve his accuracy. Boyle, an undrafted rookie, replaces Joe Callahan, who was released after the draft.

Running back: Jamaal Williams, Aaron Jones, Ty Montgomery, Devante Mays, Aaron Ripkowski (FB), Joe Kerridge (FB)

Who's the starter? Everyone but Mays has taken a turn, and the Packers think they have three potential No. 1 backs. Williams finished the season as the starter because of injuries to Jones and Montgomery.

Wide receiver: Davante Adams, Randall Cobb, Geronimo Allison, Trevor Davis, Michael Clark, J'Mon Moore, Equanimeous St. Brown, Marquez Valdes-Scantling

There are also three returning practice squad receivers, making this a deep group but one with lots of questions behind Adams and Cobb after the release of Jordy Nelson.

Tight end: Jimmy Graham, Lance Kendricks, Emanuel Byrd, Robert Tonyan

Graham is the third different No. 1 tight end in as many years after Jared Cook and Martellus Bennett.

Tackle: David Bakhtiari, Bryan Bulaga, Jason Spriggs, Kyle Murphy, Adam Pankey

Bulaga (knee), Spriggs (knee) and Murphy (foot) all finished the season on IR. Bulaga looks like a long shot to be ready for Week 1, meaning the right tackle job could be wide open.

Guard: Lane Taylor, Justin McCray, Lucas Patrick, Kofi Amichia, Cole Madison

McCray, who started at both guard and tackle last season in a fill-in role, is the likely successor to the unsigned Jahri Evans at right guard.

Center: Corey Linsley, Dillon Day

Linsley was the only player on the Packers who played every snap on his side of the ball last season.

DEFENSE

Cornerback: Kevin King, Tramon Williams, Jaire Alexander, Josh Jackson, Davon House, Quinten Rollins, Lenzy Pipkins, Josh Hawkins

New defensive coordinator Mike Pettine likes corners who can play press-man coverage, and GM Brian Gutekunst devoted his top two draft picks to this position in Alexander and Jackson. Pettine will have to figure out who starts in the slot in the sub packages.

Safety: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Josh Jones, Kentrell Brice, Marwin Evans

The Packers lost Morgan Burnett in free agency, which opened the door for Jones to take on a bigger role.

Linebacker: Clay Matthews, Nick Perry, Blake Martinez, Jake Ryan, Vince Biegel, Kyler Fackrell, Reggie Gilbert, Chris Odom, Oren Burks, Kendall Donnerson

Donnerson was the only addition to the pass-rush group this offseason, so the Packers need Biegel, Fackrell and Gilbert to step up.

Defensive line: Kenny Clark, Mike Daniels, Muhammad Wilkerson, Dean Lowry, Montravius Adams, James Looney

This could be the strength of the defense with the addition of Wilkerson in free agency.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Punter: JK Scott

You don't draft a punter in the fifth round unless you intend for him to be the guy. In fact they cut last season's punter Justin Vogel on Friday.

Kicker: Mason Crosby

He could be the only returning specialist from last season.

Long-snapper: Hunter Bradley, Zach Triner

Bradley was a seventh-round pick. Triner was a street free agent. Veteran Brett Goode remains unsigned.

Kick returner: Davis

Davis averaged 22.8 yards per return with a long of 34 last season.

Punt returner: Davis, Alexander

Davis averaged 12.0 yards per return with a long of 65 last season. Alexander averaged 9.9 yards per return with one touchdown in 43 career attempts at Louisville.
