Jaguars place Mychal Rivera on IR as they trim roster to 75

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars trimmed their roster to 75 players Friday, and placing tight end Mychal Rivera on injured reserve was the most notable move.

Rivera hasn't practiced since July 31 because of a hand injury, so the team really didn't get a good look at the former Oakland Raider. The Jaguars signed Rivera on March 22 as a replacement for Julius Thomas in the tight end role.

Rivera caught 146 passes for 1,413 yards and 10 touchdowns since joining the league in 2013. He had his best year in 2014, when he caught 58 passes for 534 yards and four touchdowns, but his production dropped the past two seasons and he caught a career-low 18 passes in 2016.

The Jaguars also placed defensive back Jeron Johnson on IR and waived/injured fullback Marquez Williams.

The team cut the following players: TE Caleb Bluiett, OL Malcolm Bunche, LB P.J. Davis, LB Akeem Dent, RB Jonathan Grimes, RB DuJuan Harris, CB Charles James II, DT Tueni Lupeamanu, WR Larry Pinkard, OL Demetrius Rhaney, WR Jamal Robinson and DB Dwayne Thomas.

The Jaguars must trim their roster to 53 by 4 p.m. ET Saturday.
