METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints receiver Willie Snead and safety Kenny Vaccaro both expressed confidence that they will play Sunday at the San Diego Chargers after they missed Monday night’s loss to the Atlanta Falcons.
The Saints’ injury report is already looking much better this week after six starters were sidelined on Monday.
On Wednesday, Snead (toe), Vaccaro (ankle), linebacker Dannell Ellerbe (quad) and defensive tackle Tyeler Davison (shoulder/foot) all participated in team drills on a limited basis.
However, left tackle Terron Armstead (knee), guard Senio Kelemete (hamstring) and cornerback Delvin Breaux (fibula) remained absent from practice. And tight end Josh Hill (ankle) did not participate in team drills.
Also, the Saints placed backup defensive end Obum Gwacham on injured reserve with an unspecified injury to make room for newly-signed offensive lineman Khalif Barnes.
Snead had declared himself a game-time decision last week, but the team decided on Sunday that he would be better off without pushing it in the game.
“I feel really good. I just needed another day just to get ready,” Snead said Wednesday. “It was so difficult (to watch the loss from the sideline). I was just frustrated at myself with the injury. It hurts when you can’t be out there.
“My focus is get better, get treatment and hopefully get ready for this game.”
Vaccaro gave a similar assessment, saying the extra rest did him a lot of good.
“I’m good, I’m ready to go. I just needed two more days,” Vaccaro said. “I told coach honestly I could play, we could shoot it up, put a whole bunch of tape on it, or I could sit a day and a half, get some more rest. And I feel great now.”
