Seahawks' Justin Britt to be game-time decision with sprained ankle

RENTON, Wash. -- The Seattle Seahawks could be without their starting center Sunday against the Houston Texans as coach Pete Carroll said Friday that Justin Britt will be a game-time decision. Britt suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Seattle's victory over the New York Giants in Week 7. He finished the game but was unable to practice until Friday, when the Seahawks listed him as a limited participant.

"He did practice today. He made it through the practice," Carroll said. "We’re listing him as questionable just to see what happens tomorrow, but he did well today. We’ll see what that means.”

Ethan Pocic replaced Britt when he missed six snaps against the Giants. Pocic, a rookie second-round pick known for his versatility, started the game at left guard and alternated possessions with Mark Glowinski. The two are competing to replace Luke Joeckel, who's expected to miss several more weeks following arthroscopic knee surgery.

Carroll said Pocic will start at left guard over Glowinski if Britt can play Sunday.

"Today, he got all of his work at the guard spot -- which was good -- with the first group," Carroll said of Pocic. "He’s just unfazed by it. He’s so accustomed to moving so much over the years that it’s just normal for him. He’s a very unusual player. He has very unique qualities, and it’s really special that we got him. If Justin goes, then he’ll start at left guard.”

Running back C.J. Prosise didn't practice this week and is listed as doubtful. He returned Sunday after missing the previous two games with a sprained ankle, but he tweaked it after two snaps and didn't come back. If he doesn't play against Houston, the 2016 third-round pick will have missed 13 of a possible 23 regular-season games, and that counts his two snaps in Week 7 as a game played.

J.D. McKissic will again help handle third-down duties for Prosise.

Cornerback Jeremy Lane is questionable. He's missed the past two games and most of a third because of a groin injury. Rookie Shaquill Griffin has started at right cornerback in his absence and is expected to remain there even if Lane is healthy enough to play Sunday. Lane is also dealing with a new injury to his finger but was a full participant in Friday's practice.

“He jammed the end of two fingers pretty violently, and he got banged up pretty good there for an unusual play, so we’ll see what happens," Carroll said. "It’s pretty sore today. He was able to practice today. We’ll find out what happens tomorrow and Sunday all the way up to game time.”

Carroll reiterated that veteran defensive end Dwight Freeney is expected to play against Houston. Carroll said Freeney has "picked stuff up immediately" and noted how playing for Atlanta last season has helped with his understanding of Seattle's defense. Falcons coach Dan Quinn was Seattle's defensive coordinator for two seasons and has run a similar scheme in his three seasons in Atlanta.

"I have no hesitation on playing him this weekend," Carroll said of Freeney. "He’s ready to go.”
