RENTON, Wash. -- With Pro Bowlers Bobby Wagner and K.J. Wright both injured, the Seattle Seahawks made a roster move to add depth at linebacker on Wednesday, signing Paul Dawson off their practice squad.
Seattle put right guard Oday Aboushi on injured reserve to clear a spot.
Wagner (hamstring) and Wright (concussion) went down in the second half of Sunday's game at Jacksonville and were unable to return. As a result, both players' availability is in question for this week's huge NFC West showdown with the Los Angeles Rams at CenturyLink Field.
As expected, neither practiced Wednesday. The Seahawks held a walkthrough, so participation listed on their practice report was an estimation of what would have occurred on a normal day.
"I don't know that right now," coach Pete Carroll said Wednesday when asked if he expects Wagner and Wright to play Sunday. "K.J.'s in the protocol and that's up to the docs. Bobby's going to go all the way all the way through the week as he has the last couple weeks, so we'll have to wait and see."
Wagner has missed practice regularly over the past few weeks because of an ailing hamstring that he re-injured against Jacksonville.
"He's very upbeat and very positive," Carroll said when asked how Wagner has responded since Sunday. "He's planning on getting ready. That's what he's doing."
All three of the touchdowns Jacksonville scored in the third quarter Sunday came with Wagner on the sideline. By the end of the Seahawks' 30-24 loss, Michael Wilhoite was playing middle linebacker for Wagner, D.J. Alexander had replaced Wright at the weak-side spot and Terence Garvin was on the strong side, which is usually Wilhoite's position when Seattle is in its base defense.
That would be the likely configuration Sunday if Wagner and Wright can't play.
The Seahawks worked out former Seattle linebacker Mike Morgan before promoting Dawson, according to ESPN's Field Yates. Dawson is a 2015 third-round pick out of TCU who previously played for the Bengals. Carroll said Seattle views him as an inside player, so he'll likely back up at middle and strong-side linebacker while also playing on special teams.
Running back Mike Davis (ribs) was listed as a limited participant on Seattle's estimated practice report Wednesday. He left the Jacksonville game and didn't return but said confidently that he's playing this week.
"I'm feeling good. I'll be OK," he said. "I can't give you much about what's going on, but I'll be OK. Trust me."
Aboushi, who made eight starts at right guard this season, has a shoulder injury that Carroll said will require surgery.
Seattle also added a linebacker to its practice squad to fill the open spot, signing Seattle-area native Jason Thompson.
