Bucs work out former Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed wide receiver Cecil Shorts III to a one-year deal, but he wasn't the only player who visited One Buc Place for a workout Tuesday.

A league source tells ESPN's Field Yates that former Atlanta Falcons running back Jacquizz Rodgers, who was among the Chicago Bears' final roster cuts, worked out for the team. He did not sign a contract. The Bucs are currently carrying three running backs on the active roster.

Rodgers played under Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter when he was the offensive coordinator in Atlanta from 2012-2014. In four years with the Falcons, he missed just one game, serving as a change-of-pace back for Michael Turner with a good set of hands.

Rodgers has experience as a kick returner too, an area the Bucs are still undecided at. In the Bucs' latest depth chart that came out Tuesday morning, rookie Ryan Smith and Adam Humphries were both listed as starters. From 2013-2014, Rodgers returned 48 kicks for 1,167 return yards, averaging 24.3 yards per return.

The Bucs also worked out former Cincinnati Bengals linebacker PJ Dawson, former Cincinnati wide receiver Mekale McKay, former Alabama quarterback Blake Sims (as a running back), running back Antone Smith, who was most recently with the New York Jets and former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver DeAndrew White.
