The Washington Redskins didn’t take long to make up their minds on veteran lineman Cullen Jenkins. Less than a week after signing him, the Redskins released him as they pare their roster to 53 by Saturday’s 4 p.m. deadline.

Jenkins, a 12-year veteran who has played with Green Bay, Philadelphia and most recently the New York Giants, was signed on Monday -- shortly before the Redskins released veteran lineman Stephen Paea.

Jenkins played a handful of snaps in the preseason finale against Tampa Bay and even made some plays in the backfield. But it wasn’t enough to keep him around. The Redskins opted for undrafted rookie lineman Anthony Lanier instead.

The Redskins have also made a number of other cuts already, including veteran tight end Logan Paulsen and running back Mack Brown. Paulsen wasn’t a big surprise because they have three other tight ends, including two they like as blockers in Vernon Davis and Niles Paul.

Brown starred in the preseason finale with 149 yards rushing, but the Redskins would like to place him on the practice squad, a source said.

Among the others cut so far: receiver Kendal Thompson, defensive lineman Matt Ioannidis, receiver Maurice Harris, lineman Josh LeRibeus, lineman Nila Kasitati, defensive lineman Jerrell Powe, corner Lloyd Carrington, receiver T.J. Thorpe, linebacker Mike Wakefield, linebacker Lynden Trail and offensive lineman Isaiah Williams.

Cuts must be made by 4 p.m. Players can start being signed to the practice squad as of 1 p.m. Sunday.
