Barry McGuigan demands equal footing in Frampton-Quigg super-fight

Carl Frampton's promoter Barry McGuigan is insisting a fight with Scott Quigg be a co-promotion before an offer of £1.5 million is considered.

Quigg's promoter Eddie Hearn has offered Frampton £1.5m for a world super-bantamweight title unification fight at the Manchester Arena on July 18.

But IBF champion Frampton's promoters Cyclone Promotions, of which former world featherweight champion McGuigan is CEO, is demanding the event is a co-promotion rather than being solely promoted by Hearn.

While not dismissing the offer to fight WBA title-holder Quigg, Cyclone Promotions said in a statement there still need to be talks between the teams before a deal can be reached.

The statement read: "Cyclone Promotions, who represent IBF World Champion Carl Frampton, are in negotiations with Matchroom Sport, who represent Scott Quigg, to deliver a co-promotion of this eagerly awaited contest in June/July 2015.

"Cyclone Promotions have made several attempts to organise a follow-up meeting with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport to progress these negotiations.

"Cyclone Promotions and Carl Frampton are therefore surprised by this afternoon's public offer from Matchroom Sport to Carl Frampton.

"Matchroom Sport understands Carl Frampton is under contract with Cyclone Promotions. If Matchroom Sport are interested in joining Cyclone Promotions in staging this domestic super-fight, we recommend Matchroom accept the invitation for a follow-up meeting.

"If Matchroom Sport does not want to meet, Carl Frampton will make an optional defence of his IBF world title this summer."

With a fight between Sheffield's IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook and Amir Khan looking unlikely and Carl Froch yet to decide if he will fight on, Frampton-Quigg is perhaps the biggest possible fight in the UK this year.

"If Cyclone Promotions really need their name on the poster and Michael Buffer to mention them in the introductions, then no problem," said Hearn. "They are right that negotiations have been ongoing but they ended last week when we hit a brick wall.

"We're frustrated. Kell Brook v Amir Khan is a potential super-fight that looks like it won't happen this summer and we want to make sure that this fight happens.

"We've made Carl an offer of £1.5m to fight in Manchester on July 18. There's no reason why this fight can't happen and we are willing to put the money up.

"There's no offer from them and all the revenue is being delivered by us. We can't let for the good of boxing to have these super fights to slip through the net."
