Celtic close on Dundee United's Nadir Ciftci and OH Leuven's Logan Bailly

Celtic are closing in on the signings of Dundee United striker Nadir Ciftci and Belgian goalkeeper Logan Bailly.

Dundee United have accepted an undisclosed bid for the Dutch-born striker, while Bailly has arrived in Glasgow to conclude a move.

The Parkhead club had two offers rejected for Ciftci over the past fortnight, but now appear to have met United's asking price of around £1.5 million.

A statement on the Tayside club's official website read: "Dundee United today confirmed that an undisclosed fee had been agreed with Celtic for Nadir Ciftci and permission has been granted for the Glasgow club to speak to the player."

Former Portsmouth player Ciftci, who joined United for free from NAC Breda two years ago, has 12 months left on his contract.

The 23-year-old last week turned down the chance to speak to Wigan after the League One club had an offer accepted before his agent, former Celtic striker Pierre van Hooijdonk, revealed he was interested in a move to Parkhead.

Celtic will now want to move quickly to tie up the forward ahead of their opening Champions League qualifier against Stjarnan next Wednesday.

Celtic's move is an indication of manager Ronny Deila's strong admiration of a player who could miss a major portion of the start of the domestic season.

The striker, who has represented both Holland and Turkey at youth level, faces a Scottish Football Association disciplinary hearing on July 20 over allegations that he bit Dundee midfielder Jim McAlister in the final game of last season.

The Tangerines, meanwhile, are due to fly out on a preseason trip to Holland on Thursday and will be under pressure from their fans to find a swift replacement for the striker, who has netted 33 goals for the club.

Chairman Stephen Thompson previously came under criticism from fans for selling Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic, their League Cup final opponents, on the final day of the winter transfer window

Meanwhile, Bailly is expected to complete his move from newly-promoted Belgian top-flight side OH Leuven, who announced on their website on Monday that Bailly had agreed a deal in principle to move to Glasgow for a transfer fee.

The 29-year-old won eight caps for Belgium, all in 2009 and 2010, and has also played for Genk, Borussia Monchengladbach and Neuchatel Xamax.

The 6-2 goalkeeper comes in as cover for Craig Gordon following the summer departure of Lukasz Zaluska.

Celtic boss Ronny Deila confirmed following his side's 5-3 friendly defeat by Dukla Prague on Saturday that he was looking for a third goalkeeper. Leo Fasan played the second half after replacing Gordon but was uncomfortable with his kicking throughout.
