Rowell suffers dislocated shoulder vs. Geelong

Rising Star favourite and sneaky Brownlow smokey Matt Rowell is facing a stint on the sidelines after he was helped from the ground with a dislocated shoulder during Gold Coast's match against Geelong.

The 19-year-old midfielder, and last year's No. 1 draft pick, was pinned in a tackle and was helped off by the doctor and physio heavily favouring his right shoulder.

Suns general manager of football Jon Haines said Rowell would head off for scans after the match.

"Unfortunately the shoulder popped out, and [the doctor] has been able to put it back in," Haines told Fox Footy.

"He was actually demanding to go back out on the ground, and the physio and high performance manager had to convince him otherwise. It's typical of his character.

"He'll stay with the team, we'll get some scans at the right time and make a better assessment at the right time."

Going into Round 5, Rowell was outright second on the leaderboard of the AFL Coaches Association award with 30 votes, having collected the perfect 10 votes in his previous three outings.
