Top prospect Forrest Lamp, teammate Williams set for Falcons' workout

Darrell Williams Jr. has no problem living in Forrest Lamp's shadow. In fact, he thinks it's beneficial.

Williams, a Georgia native and former Western Kentucky offensive lineman, will be alongside top draft prospect and ex-Hilltoppers teammate Lamp next Tuesday when the tandem goes through a private workout with the Atlanta Falcons. Lamp, a left tackle who is expected to play guard in the NFL, is a projected first-round pick and would be the ideal replacement for retired right guard Chris Chester. However, Lamp seems likely to be off the board if the Falcons stand pat with the 31st overall selection.

Meanwhile, Williams said teams have told him he could be a late-round pick or an undrafted free-agent pickup. He worked out at right tackle and guard for the Baltimore Ravens on Tuesday and previously worked out for the Carolina Panthers and Tennessee Titans.

"I look at it as a good thing because at the end of the day, [Lamp] and I were on the same line, and he didn't do it by himself," Williams said. "I'm pretty sure teams know that. We were ranked the No. 4 offensive line in the nation last year. So, I look at this as a positive thing. This is just giving teams a chance to look at me, also."

Williams stands 6-foot-5 and weighs 314 pounds. He's played every position on the line except center. Williams showed he can move during Western Kentucky's pro day and also threw up 25 reps on the bench press.

"I'm a guy who likes to get everybody motivated," Williams said. "I'm a team player. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make the team better. On the field, I'm a powerful guy. I love to hit people. I'm a self-motivated guy; hard worker. I'm going to give it my all with everything."

Williams probably knows Lamp better than anyone after starting on the same line with him since the final three games of the 2013 season.

"He's a team guy," Williams said of Lamp. "Even though he gets all that hype, he doesn't act like he's better than anyone else. He's a hard worker and just a good guy. He's always had good feet. And he's good with his hands, too."

Working out for the Falcons will carry a little added significance for Williams. He is from Dublin, Georgia, which is two hours southeast of Atlanta.

"Yes, I was a Falcons fan," Williams said. "I used to be a fan of Jamal Anderson and all the guys. It's going to mean a lot to work out for them because it's home for me."
