          Ravens trim roster to 82 by cutting eight players

          The Baltimore Ravens released eight players, most notably returner DeAndre Carter and wide receiver Aldrick Robinson, to get their roster down to 82 players. The Ravens have to get down to 75 by Tuesday.

          Carter was pegged early as the undrafted rookie with the best shot at making the team. He struggled this summer catching the ball as a receiver, and he mishandled two kickoff returns in the preseason, which essentially sealed his fate.

          Robinson, who caught 30 passes in four seasons with the Washington Redskins, failed to climb out of the bottom of the depth chart in training camp. The Ravens liked Robinson's athleticism, but he was too inconsistent in catching the ball.

          Here are the eight cuts made by the Ravens on Monday:

          • WR-KR DeAndre Carter: Undrafted rookie out of Sacramento State

          • WR Aldrick Robinson: The former sixth-round pick of the Redskins spent the last five weeks of last season on the Ravens' practice squad

          • G Leon Brown: Undrafted rookie from Alabama

          • CB Tramain Jacobs: Played three games for the Ravens last season before going on injured reserve in December with thigh injury

          • OL Marcel Jones: The former seventh-round pick of the New Orleans Saints spent last season on the Ravens' practice squad

          • P Justin Manton: Undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Monroe

          • LS Patrick Scales: Played in two games last season after two long snappers (Morgan Cox and Kevin McDermott) were injured

          • WR Trent Steelman: The 25-year-old rookie was trying to convert from an Army quarterback to NFL receiver

          Of the seven moves needed to get down to 75, many could involve putting players on injured reserve. There are six players who are likely done for the season: safety Matt Elam (biceps), defensive end Brent Urban (biceps), cornerback Chris Greenwood (hamstring), tight end Alan Reisner (ankle) and offensive tackles De'Ondre Wesley (knee) and Darryl Baldwin (undisclosed).
