Bills post-draft roster reset: Quarterbacks

Taking a look at the Buffalo Bills' roster, which stands at 90 players following the draft and undrafted free-agent signings:

Position: Quarterback

Veterans: Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor, Jeff Tuel

Drafted rookies: None

Undrafted rookies: None

Rookie camp tryouts: Austin Trainor (West Georgia), Brandon Hill (Monmouth)

Early thoughts: Will the Bills keep three quarterbacks on their 53-man roster? That's a question that will become more relevant once the Bills decide upon a starter. If the starter and the top backup are some combination of Cassel and Taylor, where does Manuel fit? He has a fully guaranteed $1.2 million base salary in the final two years of his deal, but he would offer little value to the team as a third quarterback. Conversely, if Manuel emerges as the starter, is Cassel safe? Cassel's $4.15 million base salary will effectively become guaranteed at the start of the regular season, so the Bills could avoid paying that by releasing him before then, should he not become the starter.
