With free agency and the draft in the rearview mirror and organized team activities and minicamps coming up, here’s a starting lineup projection for the Dallas Cowboys:

OFFENSE

QB: Dak Prescott: He had a phenomenal rookie season, and there’s no reason to think he can’t have the same success in his second year.

RB: Ezekiel Elliott: He led the NFL in rushing last season and should be the favorite to do so again in 2017.

LT: Tyron Smith: He has been named to the Pro Bowl the past five seasons and should be there again in 2018.

LG: Jonathan Cooper: The former first-round pick will find life a little easier between two All-Pros up front.

C: Travis Frederick: He has not missed a game or start in his career and helps keep it all together on the line.

RG: Zack Martin: If he isn't the best guard in football, he’s the second best, and he will get a big payday this summer.

RT: La’el Collins: He is getting the first crack at the job this offseason, and we’ll see if he has the athleticism to handle the extra space outside.

TE: Jason Witten: He is entering his 15th season and is not slowing down.

WR: Dez Bryant: Leg injuries the past two seasons have affected his production, but the Cowboys believe Bryant is still one of the top five playmakers at the spot.

WR: Cole Beasley: He led the Cowboys in catches last year, with 75, and is quarterback-friendly for Prescott.

WR: Terrance Williams: His return as a free agent was something of a surprise, but he has made some key catches over the years.

DEFENSE

LDE: DeMarcus Lawrence: When he played this spot mostly in 2015, he had eight sacks, but David Irving could push him for playing time.

DT: Maliek Collins: He had five sacks as a rookie, but his job description could change some in 2017.

DT: Tyrone Crawford: He was signed to a big deal as a tackle but moved to end last year out of necessity. He should benefit from moving back inside.

RDE: Taco Charlton: The Cowboys like his versatility and effectiveness and believe he can make a quick transition to the NFL.

WLB: Sean Lee: He was named an All-Pro last season and will have opportunities to make more plays this season with a better pass rush.

MLB: Anthony Hitchens: Until we see Jaylon Smith on the field, it’s hard to project him as a starter, but Hitchens is an effective, instinctive player.

SLB: Damien Wilson: He came on last year and has some position flexibility.

CB: Orlando Scandrick: He is two years removed from a major knee injury, which should help him regain the form he had in 2014.

S: Byron Jones: His second full season as the starter should help him make more plays after he picked off just one pass a year ago.

S: Jeff Heath: He showed in the playoff loss to Green Bay that he is ready for more of a role on defense. He seems to have a nose for the ball.

CB: Nolan Carroll: Signed as a free agent from Philadelphia, he is coming off his best season as a full-time player, but second-round pick Chidobe Awuzie could push him.

CB: Chidobe Awuzie: When the Cowboys move to their nickel, Awuzie should work outside with Scandrick taking over in the slot.

SPECIAL TEAMS

K: Dan Bailey: He missed five kicks last season, but he is one of the best in the league, and he is clutch.

P: Chris Jones: He is coming off his best season and has improved his directional kicking greatly.

LS: L.P. Ladouceur: As he enters his 13th season, he has never had a poor snap in his career.

KR: Ryan Switzer: Lucky Whitehead's role is in jeopardy. Switzer will have to learn this job on the fly, but the Cowboys love his quickness and toughness.

PR: Ryan Switzer: He had seven punt returns for scores in college, which is why the Cowboys want to see him with the ball in his hands.
