Aaron Rodgers' preseason might consist of just two series

Aaron Rodgers' entire body of preseason work likely will be just two series.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback, who sat out the first two preseason games and said he doesn’t expect to play in next week’s summer finale, led one touchdown drive in Friday’s appearance against the San Francisco 49ers in his preseason debut.

He finished 6-of-9 for 60 yards with a 6-yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb on the first play of the second quarter. That was Rodgers’ final snap. He hasn’t played in a preseason finale since 2012.

If he doesn’t play Thursday against the Chiefs, it easily will be Rodgers’ lightest preseason workload since he became a starter in 2008.

Previously, his lightest summer playing time came in 2013, when he played just five series and 45 snaps.

Last year, Rodgers played in only the first two preseason games, but still managed eight series and 69 plays.

Rodgers’ first series Friday was marred by an offensive pass-interference penalty that wiped out a 48-yard catch-and-run by Davante Adams. Rodgers’ best play on that drive was a 19-yard pass to new tight end Jared Cook. That was Rodgers’ longest completion.

The touchdown drive was 14 plays, 87 yards and ate up 7 minutes and 53 seconds.

With Rodgers at quarterback, Eddie Lacy rushed seven times for 45 yards with a long run of 21. Through three games, Lacy has 20 carries for 114 yards.
