NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A postgame scuffle, some dismissive words and season sweep of a new division champion could be enough to spark a true rivalry between the Tennessee Titans and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Moments after the Titans' 15-10 victory over the Jaguars clinched a playoff berth for Tennessee, punches flew between Titans Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jurrell Casey and Jaguars linebackers Blair Brown and Donald Payne.
The altercation may have stemmed from Casey delivering a hard hit on Payne on the sideline during a punt earlier in the game. The beef sparked up again when Payne confronted Casey after the game. Both players put their hands up. One Jaguars player said Casey swung at Payne. Photos taken by The Associated Press show that Brown came in a bit later and threw a closed-fist punch toward Casey. The postgame scuffle could be subject to potential fines from the NFL.
Casey didn't want to talk about the scrap much after the game, but he did have some final jabs at the Jaguars.
"We didn't want their offense to score at all. And it looks like that's what happened. It looks like that's what happened. Sorry. At the beginning of the week, I was talking about that," Casey said. "King of the South? King of the South? Sounds great, but gotta be able to beat us. Jacksonville didn't play great today. Appreciate the turnovers. Helped us out a lot."
The Jaguars' offense, which played its starters for the entire game, scored three points. A defensive score was Jacksonville's lone touchdown.
Tennessee finished 5-1 in the division, including two wins over Jacksonville, but the Jaguars' 10-6 record bested the Titans' 9-7. There's a slim chance for these teams to play in the AFC Championship, but it will likely be a point of contention when they play in 2018 at the least.
