Sam Darnold has joined the Carolina Panthers.
The New York Jets traded the 2018 No. 3 draft pick to the Panthers for a sixth-round pick in the 2021 draft and second- and fourth-rounders in 2022. Darnold, a USC graduate who won the 2017 Rose Bowl, has played three seasons with the Jets, throwing for 8,097 yards on a 59.8% completion rate, 45 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. Darnold has missed parts of each season with, variously, a foot injury, a shoulder injury and mononucleosis.
While Jets fans might be conflicted about Darnold's departure, the Panthers' Twitter account seemed pretty stoked about the whole thing, even including a reference to an old Monday Night Football meme in which he was listed as "OUT INDEFINITELY -- MONONUCLEOSIS".
