Brian Robinson's 40-yard TD run ignites Commanders early

LANDOVER, Md. -- The Washington Commanders faced questions about their once-potent offense over the past two weeks. It took one series -- and a long touchdown run by Brian Robinson Jr. -- against the Tennessee Titans to perhaps rejuvenate the offense Sunday.

Robinson, who was limited the previous week against Dallas Cowboys with a sprained right ankle, ran 40 yards for a touchdown on Washington's third play from scrimmage to give the Commanders a 7-0 lead.

Robinson's previous career long run for a touchdown was 15 yards; he now has eight rushing touchdowns this season -- three more than his previous best.

On the second-and-1 run, Robinson followed pulling tackle Brandon Coleman through the gap between the right guard and tackle and received a good block from tight end John Bates. Robinson ran untouched for the score.

Quarterback Jayden Daniels completed two passes for 19 yards to open the series.

Washington's offense had struggled the past two games in losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas, with a combined 42 points. The Eagles held them to less than 300 yards while Dallas did the same until the final four minutes when Washington scored 17 points.

Washington then added two more touchdowns in the opening quarter. Daniels capped an 80-yard drive with a 4-yard run up the middle.

He then connected with Terry McLaurin for a 16-yard touchdown on a deep crosser with 24 seconds left in the opening quarter. The 21 points matched their highest-scoring first quarter since a win over Dallas in Week 17 of the 2015 season.
