Wallabies star Kurtley Beale will face no sanctions following the release of a video on social media that showed him present while another man snorted a white powder, believed to be cocaine.

The vision surfaced on social media on Monday evening (AEDT) with Beale clearly visible alongside NRL player Corey Norman and Sydney publican Stu Laundy.

The NRL was first to act, declaring they had been aware of the vision, which was reportedly taken in 2016, and that its Integrity Unit had already spoken with Norman over the incident.

Rugby Australia followed on Tuesday afternoon, saying they had met with Beale and received an apology for his presence in the video.

"Rugby Australia only became aware of the vision after it had surfaced on social media on Monday afternoon and understands that it was recorded in 2016," chief executive Raelene Castle said.

"After becoming aware that the vision was being shared on social media, Kurtley contacted me last night to apologise for the negative attention the video had attracted and expressed regret at putting himself in a compromising position at that time.

"Kurtley has today met with Rugby Australia's Integrity Unit to provide his version of events and the high standards that are expected of him as a professional Rugby player have been firmly reiterated.

"Kurtley acknowledges that his presence in the video and the humour he expressed at the incident at the time does not reflect the image that is expected of a professional Rugby player."

While it was acknowledged the vision was from 2016, its release follows Beale's withdrawal from last year's final Test of the season against England. The veteran Wallabies utility and teammate Adam Ashley-Cooper were stood down from the Twickenham match after breaking team protocol, bringing women back to the team hotel.

Beale is currently in preseason training for Super Rugby with the Waratahs.
