McCartin 'not happy' with enforced stint on sidelines

St Kilda's Jack Steven said Saints' young gun Paddy McCartin's stint on the sidelines would freshen the strong-marking forward ahead of the club's finals charge.

McCartin has been given an enforced three-week recovery period following a terrible run with concussion, suffering six bouts since 2014.

The latest incident happened in the club's VFL affiliate Sandringham when the 21-year-old copped a knee to the head.

Club doctors expect the former No.1 draft pick to not have any long-lasting effects.

"He's still training with us and training hard. I think they've just given him a spell from the contact," Steven told ESPN.

"It's not like he's acting any different or anything. He's just the same Paddy as we know. He seems pretty fine to me.

"Obviously he wants to play, so he's not happy with [the decision]. But there's not much you can really do when it comes to concussion.

"There's no real argument. You've just got to let the doctors and experts take control of that. He's a young kid. He'll be right."

McCartin has played five games this year. He last played in Round 12.
