SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- With about 2 minutes, 30 seconds left in the Arizona Cardinals' 20-10 win against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, linebacker Karlos Dansby entered the NFL record books.

His interception of 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard was the 20th of his career, making him the fifth player in NFL history with at least 40 sacks and 20 interceptions.

Before the season, Dansby told ESPN that "without a doubt" joining the 40-20 club would punch his ticket to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

He was a bit more subdued in the locker room after Sunday's game. No boasting. No declarations. No gold jacket predictions. But Dansby said the feat "should say a lot."

"Especially for this being further along in my career for me to be able to stand the test of time," Dansby said. "I have been playing this game for 14 years. I have played it for a decade. I have seen the evolution of the game and how it is changing.

"For me to be able to still have success and be successful on the field, all praises go to God for that one. He gave me a great gift and I am just trying to use it."

Dansby made the pick when Beathard’s pass bounced off offensive lineman Trent Brown’s helmet.

"That was perfect timing," Dansby said. "He threw it right off his offensive lineman's helmet. It flipped in the air. I said to myself, 'Man, it can't be that easy to get 20.'

"It is perfect. It is perfect timing. A perfect scenario. The stage was set. God is good. That is all I can say."

Dansby joins Ray Lewis (41.5 sacks and 31 interceptions), Brian Urlacher (41.5 and 22), Seth Joyner (52 and 24) and Wilber Marshall (45 and 23) as the only players in the 40-20 club. None are in the Hall of Fame, but Lewis and Urlacher will be eligible for the first time this year.

"It is a great group of guys that I am in a class with right now," Dansby said. "Forty-plus sacks and 20 interceptions, that is hard to do."
