LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- Already minus starter Kevin White (injured reserve), the Bears may be without the services of veteran slot receiver/return man Eddie Royal in Indianapolis on Sunday.
Royal, who missed practice all week, is officially listed as questionable for the game because of a calf injury.
“We don't have a 'no practice, no play' policy,” coach John Fox said. “It's just a matter of if we deem we're better with him than without him; we'll make that judgment. We have up to an hour-and-a-half before kickoff.”
Royal is off to great start in 2016 -- second on the club in receptions (18), receiving yards (241) and touchdowns (two). Royal’s presence is also felt on special teams, where he returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown in Week 2.
Depending on the severity of Royal’s calf injury, the Bears could elevate seventh-round pick Daniel Braverman to the active roster off the practice squad. Second-year wideout Cameron Meredith is expected to play more now that White (high ankle sprain/fractured fibula) is out a minimum eight weeks, and perhaps the rest of the year.
Meantime, quarterback Jay Cutler (thumb) will sit in favor of Brian Hoyer for a third consecutive week. Cutler is doubtful on the injury report, along with nose tackle Eddie Goldman (ankle), running back Jeremy Langford (ankle) and rookie cornerback Deiondre’ Hall (ankle).
Regarding Hall, Fox said the fourth-round pick, “rolled his ankle at some point late in Thursday’s practice and it flared up this morning.”
Questionable players include: left tackle Charles Leno (illness), linebacker Leonard Floyd (calf), running back Ka’Deem Carey (hamstring), wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (knee), tight end Zach Miller (ribs), defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard (shoulder), linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski (elbow), linebacker Danny Trevathan (thumb), linebacker Willie Young (knee/elbow), cornerback Sherrick McManis (hamstring), cornerback Tracy Porter (knee) and guard Josh Sitton (shoulder).
