Plays that shaped the Packers' season No. 8: Mason Crosby's missed field goal vs. Lions

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers were on the field for 2,982 plays combined on offense, defense and special teams in 18 games, including the playoffs, during the 2015 season. Most of those will be forgotten, but some will be remembered for years to come.

As we review the season that ended with an overtime playoff loss for the second year in a row, we look back on 10 plays (in reverse order) that most shaped the season.

Here's No. 8:

Game: Packers vs. Lions, Week 10

Date: Nov. 15, 2015

Location: Lambeau Field

The play: Mason Crosby's missed 52-yard field goal as time expired

Why it mattered: In a game in which the Packers didn’t score a touchdown until there was 5:55 left in the fourth quarter, they still had a chance to win after cornerback Damarious Randall recovered Crosby’s onside kick with 31 seconds left. However, the 52-yard field goal never had a chance. It was hit so poorly that it looked like it was blocked even though it wasn’t. It was the Packers’ third straight loss coming out of the bye week and following their 6-0 start. It also marked the Lions’ first win over the Packers in Wisconsin since 1991 and put the Packers on the way to getting swept at home by their division foes for the first time since 1968.

Quotable: “I feel awful, feel like I let my teammates down,” Crosby said after the game. “We did a lot of good things there at the end to get back into this thing, where we had some issues doing stuff early, but we had every chance to win it right there, and I’ve got to capitalize.”
