COSTA MESA, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Chargers had four players named to the Pro Bowl. Here's a look at who was selected and who wasn't:
Keenan Allen, WR, first Pro Bowl: Allen leads the Chargers in receptions (88), receiving yards (1,197) and receiving touchdowns (five) through 14 games. He became the first player in NFL history to finish with at least 10 catches, more than 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in three straight games earlier this season. Allen also leads the league in third-down catches (32) and receiving yards (479).
Joey Bosa, DE, first Pro Bowl: The Ohio State product leads the Chargers with 11.5 sacks this season and has totaled 22 sacks in two seasons. Bosa is a polished pass-rusher who uses his hands and also defends the run well. Bosa has quickly developed into a foundational player for the Chargers on defense.
Casey Hayward, CB, second Pro Bowl: The Georgia native has totaled four interceptions and 24 pass breakups so far this season, helping to lead a Chargers pass defense that's ranked No. 4 in the league.
Philip Rivers, QB, seventh Pro Bowl: Heading into Week 16, Rivers is fifth in the league in passing yards (3,838) and tied for seventh in passing touchdowns (24). He has thrown for more than 3,500 passing yards for a 10th consecutive season. Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are the only other quarterbacks to do that.
SNUBS/ALTERNATES
Melvin Ingram, DE: The other half of the Chargers' talented pass-rush duo along with Bosa, Ingram should have made the initial roster but likely will be selected as an injury replacement after being named a first alternate. Ingram has 10 sacks on the season, including a career-high three-sack performance against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3. Ingram earned AFC Defensive Player of the Month honors in September. Ingram's 28.5 sacks since 2015 is No. 8 in the NFL.
Melvin Gordon and Russell Okung were second alternates, while Corey Liuget was a fifth alternate.
