The NFL has released its 2017 regular-season schedule. Here’s a look at what’s in store for the New York Giants.

Breakdown: A repeat of last year isn’t going to be easy. The New York Giants face a difficult schedule this season that includes four prime-time games, with three being on the road against quality competition. It is highlighted by the opener in Dallas and a Thanksgiving matchup with the Redskins in Washington.

The tough grind for the Giants begins with another Week 1 trip to Dallas, the third straight season the Giants open on the road against the Cowboys and fifth time in six years the division rivals will meet in Week 1. This year it will be a Sunday night game.

The Giants’ home opener at MetLife Stadium during a grueling first half of the season is the following Monday night against the Detroit Lions. Again, not easy. Five of the Giants’ first seven games come against teams that finished with a winning record in 2016. Four of them will be on the road.

After that the Giants will get a week of rest. Their bye is in Week 8. The schedule eases up (vs. Rams and at 49ers) to start the second half of the season.

Important start: The Giants are going to need to come out of the gate as road warriors. Three of their first four games (Dallas, Philadelphia and Tampa Bay) are on the road. None are expected to be easy games. Their secondary will need to play well early in the season facing Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Carson Wentz, Jameis Winston, Philip Rivers and Russell Wilson in six of their first seven games. That is a pretty good group of quarterbacks.

Get the frequent flier miles ready: The Giants have the AFC West and NFC West on the schedule this season. That means a lot of travel. Their farthest trip last season (outside of London) was to Dallas. They have four longer trips than that this year with road games in Denver, San Francisco, Oakland and Arizona. Three of those four come in the second half of the season, when the Giants will travel farther in four games than they did all of last year during the regular season.

Total miles to travel in 2017: 13,092

Total miles traveled in 2016: 8,374

Strength of schedule: T-8th, .535
