SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- After waiting for the better part of four games to record his first sack of the season and as a member of the San Francisco 49ers, defensive end Elvis Dumervil didn't even wait two minutes to get his second one.

In a span of a little more than a minute and a half of the fourth quarter of Sunday's 18-15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Dumervil dropped quarterback Carson Palmer twice.

For a player who has made a career of sacking quarterbacks, those plays wouldn't have meant much but there was a little bit of history that came with them.

Dumervil's first sack was No. 100 in his career, making him the first player under 6-foot-1 to reach that milestone since sacks became an official statistic in 1982, according to Elias.

Of course, Dumervil wasn't much in the mood to celebrate his latest achievement after his team's narrow loss.

"The moment you start dwelling on what you’ve done in this league, that’s when you get out," Dumervil said. "It’s an accomplishment, yes, I’m not going to sugarcoat that. I played with a lot of great players, great coaches, great organizations so anybody I’ve played with, that’s a part of them. But most important, I’m just trying to get my first win of the year. That’s the most important thing."

While Dumervil didn't feel like discussing his accomplishments, it is worth noting where he now rates in NFL history after recording sacks Nos. 100 and 101 for his career.

A quick rundown of what Dumervil has done:

  • Dumervil became the 32nd player in the NFL to reach 100 sacks since 1982.

  • Among active players, only the Carolina Panthers' Julius Peppers (148) and the Baltimore Ravens' Terrell Suggs (117.5) have more sacks than Dumervil's 101.

  • In his 10-plus year career, Dumervil has now posted 32 games with more than one sack. That's the most among active players.

  • Dumervil now ranks 29th all-time in sacks. His two quarterback takedowns on Sunday moved him past a group that included Hall of Famer and former 49er Charles Haley.

  • Of the 101 sacks Dumervil has, he's brought down 48 quarterbacks. Dumervil has sacked the Cincinnati Bengals' Andy Dalton, the Los Angeles Chargers' Philip Rivers and the Pittsburgh Steeler's Ben Roethlisberger the most with seven on each of them.
