TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed defensive end Jacquies Smith on the active/PUP list, the team announced Wednesday.
Smith, 27, suffered a torn ACL in his right knee in Week 1 and missed the rest of the 2016 season. He was also sidelined during the Bucs' offseason program.
One of the Bucs' top pass-rushers in 2014 and 2015, Smith recorded 13.5 sacks during that span.
The Bucs have had a number of injuries at defensive end. Noah Spence is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and dislocated shoulder he suffered last year. He also was sidelined this offseason.
George Johnson missed all of last season with a fractured hip and William Gholston suffered a dislocated elbow at the end of last year.
Players on the active/PUP list still count against the 90-man roster and can be activated at any time prior to 53-man roster cuts.
Bucs veterans report to camp on Thursday.
