Tragedy has struck South African Premier Soccer League side Polokwane City again with the death of defender Mogau Tshehla in a car accident.
The club confirmed the news via their official Twitter account on Monday night.
"It is with our deepest sorrows that we inform you of the death of our defender Mogau Tshehla on [sic] a car accident. Our thoughts are with the family, teammates and friends."
The 25-year-old started the previous fixture for the club, a 3-2 Nedbank Cup Last 32 defeat to Ubuntu Cape Town last Wednesday and made seven appearances in all during the campaign.
He arrived at the club from National First Division side Witbank Spurs in January 2017. City have endured tragedy in the recent past when four of their players were killed in a car accident in 2012.
Khomotso Mpaketsane, Moeketsi Nthete, Mojalefa Mphuthi and Koketso Takalo died when the team bus they were travelling in was struck at an intersection. Another player, Kopano Sekgobela, was paralysed in the accident.
City midfielder Mogamat Jacobs nearly lost his life and spent 18 months on the sidelines after he was involved in an accident in 2016.
Tshehla becomes the latest South African footballer to lose their life on the road. In the last few years Ajax Cape Town defender Cecil Lolo and Maritzburg United midfielder Mondli Cele lost their lives, while last October another Maritzburg player, Mlondi Dlamini, was killed.
South African football lost two of its brightest stars to car accidents in former Orlando Pirates players Lesley Manyathela and Gift Leremi.
