AFL crowds to return for Round 2's Showdown in Adelaide

Football fans will be permitted to attend Round 2's Showdown at Adelaide Oval, the first time spectators will watch live AFL in 2020.

South Australia premier confirmed 2,000 club supporters, along with an additional 240 fans who will be stationed in corporate boxes, will be granted access on Saturday night.

The match is a Port Adelaide home game, so the Power will be allocated 1,475 tickets. Crows members will have access to 475 and the Adelaide Oval will control the remaining 50 tickets.

"We wish we could have all our members at the ground on Saturday night but we know this season will be different and we will strive to provide equal opportunity to all our members on Saturday night and across the remainder of the season," said Power CEO Keith Thomas.

"We will allocate the 1,475 tickets amongst our Membership base via a ballot system. The club will communicate specific details to our members as soon as we can."

The news wasn't as positive for Queensland football. Gold Coast president Tony Cochrane had hoped crowds would be able to return in some capacity for this weekend's Suns vs. Eagles game at Metricon Stadium, but Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk denied a test crowd scenario.

"It won't be this weekend," Palaszczuk said. "Let's not forget we are coming out of a world pandemic."

Swans CEO Tom Harley has also put in a request to have fans in the stands when Sydney plays Essendon on Sunday.

"We certainly have [put an application in to have fans at the SCG on Sunday]," Harley told SEN. "We're working with the NSW government at the moment that if does become available, we're at the front of the queue.

"I'd expect [a decision on crowds at the SCG this weekend] in the next couple of days. By Thursday afternoon, you'd like to know the landscape we're dealing with. The game is on Sunday but if we are fortunate to be given the green light, we'll be able to work through it."
