Suns 27-60 Blues

Team news: The Blues will be boosted by the return of Marc Pittonet and Jack Martin but will be without Mitch McGovern again, meaning De Koning holds his spot. The Suns have once again dropped Alex Sexton, while Brayden Fiorini and Nick Holman have made way for the returning Jarrod Harbrow and David Swallow.

Prediction: The fixture wasn't overly kind to the Suns, who are playing their second game in five days. The Blues pulled a win from nowhere last week when Jack Newnes slotted one of the greatest after-the-siren goals of all time to sink the Dockers at Optus Stadium. David Teague's side travel north for this clash, knowing a win will keep them in touch of the top eight.

Score: Gold Coast 4.3 (27) def. by Carlton 7.18 (60)

Western Bulldogs vs. Melbourne, Metricon Stadium 1:45pm (AEST)

Team news: The Dees have gone in unchanged despite Brayden Preuss being under an injury cloud, while the Dogs have recalled Hayden Crozier, Jason Johannisen, Josh Bruce and Laitham Vandermeer for Bailey Dale (Omitted), Rhylee West (Injured), Roarke Smith (Managed) and Sam Lloyd (Omitted).

Prediction: Melbourne produced arguably their best performance in 18 months last week. Can they back it up? The Bulldogs also looked like a serious team in their demolition of the Crows. If Aaron Naughton repeats his brilliance, the Dogs could be picking up the four points, but the newfound confidence should hold Simon Goodwin's side in good stead. Expect a close one!

Score: Western Bulldogs 12.8 (80) def. Melbourne 7.10 (52)

Port Adelaide vs. Hawthorn, Adelaide Oval, 4:35pm (AEST)

Team news: The Hawks have been dealt a massive double blow, with Jaeger O'Meara (fractured his hand) and James Sicily (ACL) both injured against West Coast. Port Adelaide have again made a statement at the selection table, dropping young gun Xavier Duursma, while the Power will be without Peter Ladhams and Dan Houston after they were suspended for COVID-19 breaches. The Hawks have had a difficult week, losing James Sicily to an ACL injury and the club confirming that Jaeger O'Meara fractured his hand against West Coast.

Prediction: Two of the more disappointing sides of Round 12 square off at Adelaide Oval on Saturday afternoon. The Power come into the game having been humbled by the Cats, while the Hawks were no match for the Eagles in Perth. We know Port are a genuine finals team and the Hawks are basically a bottom four side. This shouldn't be much of a contest.

Score: Port Adelaide 9.14 (68) def. Hawthorn 9.4 (58)

Essendon vs. Richmond, TIO Stadium, 7:40pm (AEST)

Team news: Irving Mosquito will make AFL debut in Darwin, with Essendon confirming the news on Thursday. Richmond will regain All-Australian defender Bachar Houli and expect Jack Riewoldt to play despite some minor concern over a head knock against the Suns last week. Bachar Houli has replaced Nathan Broad as the Tigers' only change in what will be Houli's first game since round five.

Prediction: It was another poor performance from the Bombers in Round 12 and few would give them any sort of chance against the reigning premiers here. The Tigers are coasting and shouldn't have any real issues dispatching Essendon up north.

Score: Essendon 10.1 (61) def by. Richmond 10.13 (73)

Fremantle vs. Sydney, Optus Stadium, 8.10pm (AEST)

Team news: Fremantle have announced that No. 9 draft pick Liam Henry will make his debut this week, coming in for Brett Bewly. Dane Rampe will miss the rest of the year for the Swans with a broken hand, but the Swans regain Josh Kennedy in a massive boost.

Prediction: Justin Longmuir's side has every right to feel cheated out of four points but they need to move on quickly as another winnable game is on the horizon. The Swans enjoyed their best win of 2020 last week but the game probably said more about the inconsistent Giants than it did Sydney. Hard to see either team kicking 50 points in this game, but Fremantle should be able to bounce back.

Score: Fremantle 7.8 (50) def. Sydney 2.7 (19)

Sunday, August 23

Adelaide vs. Geelong, Adelaide Oval, 1.05pm (AEST)

Team news: Lots if changes to both teams for this clash. Ben Crocker, Chayce Jones, Darcy Fogarty and Jordon Butts all come in for the Crows, while Andrew McPherson (Injured), Daniel Talia (Injured), Fischer McAsey (Omitted) and Paul Seedsman (Omitted) miss. The Cats welcome back Brad Close, Esava Ratugolea, Jack Steven, Jordan Clark and Luke Dahlhaus, with Harry Taylor (Managed), Joel Selwood (Injured), Lachie Fogarty (Omitted), Sam Simpson (Injured) and Zach Tuohy all out of the side.

Prediction: It's difficult to see the Crows breaking their duck against the competition's form side in Geelong. The Cats ave looked ominous in recent weeks with key forward Tom Hawkins dominating in his last two outings. There's no reason why the Tomahawk won't make it a hat-trick of bags and put one hand on the Coleman Medal.

Score: Adelaide 5.7 (37) def by. Geelong 9.11 (65)

Brisbane vs. St Kilda, Gabba, 3.35pm (AEST)

Team news: Cam Rayner is back for the Lions and is joined in the team by debutant Tom Fullarton. Matt Eagles and Rhys Mathieson have both been omitted. The Saints are managing young gun Hunter Clark, while Jack Lonie has been dropped. In their place is Dean Kent and Jake Carlisle.

Prediction: The Lions secured the four points in Round 12 but it was far from a clinical performance. If they roll up and just expect to get the job done this week, they could be going home disappointed. But Chris Fagan's young team rarely plays two poor games in a row and will be difficult to beat, even for an ever improving St Kilda side eyeing off a finals berth.

Score: Brisbane 6.14 (50) deef. St Kilda 7.6 (48)

West Coast vs. GWS, Optus Stadium, 6.10pm (AEST)

Team news: West Coast star Elliot Yeo is still battling from an OP-type issue in the groin area, and won't return for the clash. Brayden Ainsworth and Jack Redden will also miss. The Giants have made a host of changes; key forward Jeremy Finlayson, veteran ruckman Sam Jacobs, Lachie Ash, Zac Langdon and Xavier O'Halloran were all dumped. Star forward Toby Greene (hamstring) returns in a big boost, while Shane Mumford has been recalled for a daunting ruck battle with Nic Naitanui. Daniel Lloyd, Adam Kennedy and Bobby Hill were also called up, along with debutant Jake Riccardi.

Prediction: If the Giants have any sort of pride they will come out and win this game against the flag favourites. Leon Cameron's men were utterly humiliated against the Swans last week, kicking just three goals for the match. They will respond but it's hard to see them getting over a team that has won seven straight games and is playing on their home deck.

Score: West Coast 9.7 (61) def. GWS 7.7 (49)

Monday, August 24

Collingwood vs. North Melbourne, Gabba, 7.10pm (AEST)

Team news: Collingwood has recalled maligned forward Mason Cox to its line-up for the first time since Round 5. Levi Greenwood also returns for his first AFL game since rupturing his ACL in last season's qualifying final, while Chris Mayne, Jordan Roughead and Flynn Appleby are also named at the expense of Lynden Dunn, Callum Brown, Brody Mihocek, Rupert Wills and Ben Reid. Th Roos will regain Robbie Tarrant who was a lat omission last weekend, but will still be without omitted trio Jared Polec, Aaron Hall and Jasper Pittard who will miss for the second straight week.

Prediction: Injuries look to have derailed Collingwood's premiership charge but don't write them off just yet, even after a horror loss to the Demons last time out. Rhyce Shaw's side is battling their own injury woes at the moment and will be reeling from letting a golden opportunity slip in their last game. It will be low scoring, but the Pies will likely have too much class.

Tip: Magpies to win by 9 points.

Odds: Magpies $1.42, Kangaroos $2.90
