ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Guard Ron Leary will miss his second consecutive game Sunday as the Denver Broncos again will try to snap out of their offensive doldrums with issues along the offensive line.

Leary missed last Sunday's loss to the Miami Dolphins with a back injury and has not practiced this week. After Friday's practice coach Vance Joseph ruled Leary out of Sunday's game against the New York Jets.

"And (back injuries) are tricky," Joseph said. "He wants to go, he's been trying to go for two weeks. It's slowly getting better."

Connor McGovern, who was the Broncos' fifth-round pick in the 2016 draft, will start in Leary's right guard spot against the Jets. Leary and center Matt Paradis have been the most consistent Broncos linemen in a season when the unit has struggled at times to protect the passer.

With McGovern in the lineup and Donald Stephenson at right tackle once again, the Broncos will play their third different combination at offensive line in the past seven games. The Broncos have struggled mightily on offense -- their total of 19 touchdowns on offense is tied for second-fewest in the league and they have scored more than 19 points once since Week 2.

Also, the flu bug that has worked its way through the Broncos' locker room over the past two weeks is hanging on as defensive end Adam Gotsis missed Friday's practice. Gotsis, who also missed some practice time in recent weeks with the flu, is formally listed as questionable but Joseph said he expected Gotsis to play against the Jets.

Last week the Broncos had a group of players at a variety of positions who missed practice time because of the illness, but the defensive line has been the hardest hit.

"He's the last guy among out D-linemen to get it," Joseph said. "... That's where it started, with Shelby, Shelby Harris, he's still got some of it. They'll work through it."

Quarterback Paxton Lynch (ankle) has also been ruled out of Sunday's game, Joseph said.
