Plays that shaped the Packers' season No. 6: Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb vs. Redskins

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay Packers were on the field for 2,982 plays combined on offense, defense and special teams in 18 games, including the playoffs, during the 2015 season. Most of those will be forgotten, but some will be remembered for years to come.

As we review the season that ended with an overtime playoff loss for the second year in a row, we look back on 10 plays (in reverse order) that most shaped the season.

Here's No. 6:

Game: Packers vs. Redskins, wild-card playoffs

Date: Jan. 10, 2016

Location: FedEx Field; Landover, Maryland

The play: Aaron Rodgers’ 12-yard touchdown pass to Randall Cobb

Why it mattered: The NFC wild-card game couldn’t have started a whole lot worse for Green Bay. Rodgers was sacked for a safety on the way to an 11-0 deficit. It wasn’t until the second quarter when the offense finally got rolling. Rodgers hit James Jones down the middle of the field for a 34-yard gain. And then Rodgers caught the Redskins trying to sub while the Packers were in their no-huddle offense. He not only drew a 12-men-on-the-field penalty (while Redskins coach Jay Gruden was trying to call for a timeout), but he also caught them offside. With a free play, Rodgers danced in the pocket and bought time for Cobb to come free in the end zone. It was the start of 17 straight points for the Packers on the way to a 35-18 win.

Quotable: “We came together today,” Rodgers said after the game. “We played for each other. I think there was a time there down 11-0 where people could have started having that doubt creep in, but it didn’t happen. The defense kept playing well. A big stop after what looked like a touchdown; we held them to a field goal after the review. That really helped. Obviously, they ended up scoring the next possession, but to not be down 16-0 and only be down 11-0 was key for us.”
