GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Three days after the final cuts, the Green Bay Packers have added their third new defensive player.

They signed fifth-year defensive lineman Quinton Dial on Tuesday.

Dial followed his former San Francisco 49ers teammate Ahmad Brooks, who officially signed with the Packers on Sunday. That was the same day general manager Ted Thompson claimed rookie Chris Odom off waivers from the Atlanta Falcons.

While Brooks and Odom are part of a revamped outside linebacker group behind Clay Matthews and Nick Perry, Dial is expected to provide depth on the defensive line.

The 6-foot-5, 318 Dial has played in 46 career games, including 32 starts -- 26 of those came in the last two seasons. A fifth-round pick in 2013, Dial gives the Packers another veteran presence on their defensive front. They signed defensive end Ricky Jean Francois this offseason but released Letroy Guion last month. Guion could not have played in the first four games anyway because he was suspended by the NFL.

The Packers kept six defensive linemen in the final cuts but one of them, rookie third-round pick Montravius Adams, practiced Monday for the first time since July 28, when he dropped out of training camp with a foot injury. Adams was limited on Monday and said he wasn’t sure when he would be able to play. However, he said he thought it would be sooner than eight weeks -- the time he would be required to miss if he were placed on injured reserve and was one of the two players who could off the IR list.

The Packers cut second-year pro Christian Ringo to make room for Dial on the roster. Ringo, a former sixth-round pick, played in eight games last season after spending all of his rookie year on the practice squad.
