EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- After being limited at practice throughout the week, New York Giants running back Rashad Jennings is expected to play this Sunday against the Washington Redskins.

The Giants originally listed three players as out, doubtful or questionable on their final injury report. Jennings wasn't one of them. The Giants added him Friday afternoon with the questionable designation.

Defensive end Olivier Vernon (wrist) was not on the list. Starting right tackle Marshall Newhouse (calf), safety Darian Thompson (foot) and defensive tackle Robert Thomas (illness) were listed as out for this Sunday against the Redskins.

Jennings, the Giants' starting running back, hurt his thumb in Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints. He wore a small cast during practice this week (which he's expected to wear on Sunday) and should still start despite the likelihood he can only carry the ball in his right hand.

"He's a veteran back. He's played a lot of football in this league," coach Ben McAdoo said. "He's earned his spot. And yeah, I'm comfortable with it."

Second-year offensive lineman Bobby Hart is expected to start in Newhouse's place. Thompson will be replaced by Nat Berhe.

Hart, 22, played the final 12 snaps after Newhouse limped off the field last week against the Saints. He received some help, but the Giants were pleased with his performance.

"I thought, given the situation, it was game on the line and we had to throw the ball," offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan said. "We were throwing the ball quite a bit. He was competitive in those snaps and matched up against a heck of a player. [Cameron Jordan] for the Saints is a very, very good football player. He competed well and was able to get some chip help on one of the plays from the backs. Those guys did a tremendous job. He didn’t seem overwhelmed or flustered. He competed and was able to do enough to help us be successful."
