Welterweight Roberto Garcia never showed up at Thursday's weigh-in for his fight against former world titleholder Shawn Porter and was scratched from the card.
Garcia was supposed to face Porter in a 12-round welterweight bout scheduled to open the Spike TV debut of adviser Al Haymon's "Premier Boxing Champions" series Friday night (9 ET/PT) at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
Former welterweight titlist Andre Berto (29-3, 22 KOs) will face Josesito Lopez (33-6, 19 KOs) in the scheduled 12-round main event, and they both made the 147-pound weight limit.
So did Porter (24-1-1, 15 KOs), who now likely will face Erick Bone, another Haymon fighter, according to California State Athletic Commission executive officer Andy Foster.
Foster told ESPN.com that Bone, who already is licensed in California, was on a plane Thursday night from New York and would weigh in Friday morning.
Nobody from Goossen Promotions, the promoter of record for Haymon's show, could be reached for comment.
Foster said he was told that Garcia was at least 4 pounds overweight and did not come to the weigh in Thursday.
"It was more than 4 pounds. That is what I was told by the promoter," Foster said. "I was told that he had to cut too much weight and he couldn't do it."
Garcia (36-3, 23 KOs), 34, of Weslaco, Texas, who has won eight fights in a row since suffering a 10-round unanimous decision loss in Mexico in 2010 to former welterweight titlist Antonio Margarito, was due to earn $150,000. Now not only will he not earn his purse, but the California commission could fine and suspend him.
Porter, 27, of Akron, Ohio, is seeking to rebound from his lone defeat, a majority decision that cost him his world title against England's unbeaten Kell Brook in August at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
Bone (16-1, 8 KOs), 26, of Ecuador, will be taking a huge step up in the level of his opposition against Porter. Bone, who will be fighting in the United States for the fourth consecutive time, has won four fights in a row since a 12-round spit-decision loss to then-undefeated Alberto Mosquera in Ecuador in October 2013.
