Coach Billy Donovan and the University of Florida are off to another early start with their 2015 recruiting class.
The Gators scored their second verbal 2015 commitment on Wednesday night, this time from KeVaughn Allen, a 6-foot-3 shooting guard ranked No. 27 in the ESPN 60 from North Little Rock High School in Arkansas.
Allen joins 6-foot-9 big man Kevarrius Hayes, who pledged to Donovan last June, in Florida's recruiting class to date. He chose Florida over offers from Arkansas, Baylor, UConn, Memphis, and Mississippi State, among other schools.
He's already had a decorated high school career, leading North Little Rock to consecutive state titles and being named Gatorade Player of the Year in Arkansas following his junior season.
Allen is a long, versatile, athletic guard. While he projects primarily at the two-guard position at the next level, where he'll be able to put points on the board from all three ranges, he is also a good ballhandler who has played some point guard in high school and so will be a valuable secondary ballhandler at the next level.
Florida has made a habit of landing early commitments from impact prospects over the years. A year ago the Gators scored ESPN 100 point guard Chris Chiozza and then completed their future backcourt with another ESPN 100 pledge, Brandone Francis, just before the start of the evaluation period.
It was a similar story with the 2013 class, when Donovan made an early splash with a verbal commitment from ESPN 100 point guard Kasey Hill midway through his junior season in high school.
