36ers release disgruntled import Randall

The Adelaide 36ers have released import guard Craig Randall II, sources told ESPN.

Randall II was the 36ers' leading scorer - and fourth in the entire NBL in points per game - over the six games he played for the team, averaging 20.3 points, to go with 3.2 rebounds and 3.0 assists. That offensive firepower didn't consistently translate to wins, though, with the team 3-4 going into the FIBA break; the 36ers are currently at the bottom of the league in defensive efficiency.

The 36ers confirmed the release of Randall II "by mutual consent effective from today" later Tuesday morning.

"The decision has been made in the best interests of Craig and the club moving forward and for Craig to pursue other opportunities at the highest level," the team said in a press release.

Nick Marshall has been elevated from a development player to a roster player, the team added. The 36ers plan to eventually fill that spot with a new import.

The decision to release Randall II had been in place for a few days, and stemmed from chemistry issues with both his head coach and teammates, sources said.

The 26-year-old was often seen arguing with CJ Bruton, as well as multiple teammates, during games, souring his relationship with those he shared the floor with, sources said.

Randall II was particularly incensed during shootaround prior to the 36ers' game against the Perth Wildcats on Saturday after being told he'd start the game on the bench, sources said. Bruton addressed the benching after the game, saying Randall II "didn't like it or agree with it."

Randall II had joined the 36ers after a stint in the NBA G-League with the Long Island Nets. He's the first of multiple import changes expected across the NBL over the FIBA break.
