American point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright has signed a new one-year deal to return to the New Zealand Breakers, sources told ESPN.
Jackson-Cartwright will return to the Breakers after leading the team in points and assists over the 2023-24 NBL season, finishing top-three in MVP voting and named to the All-NBL First Team.
Jackson-Cartwright was one of the NBL's most prolific offensive weapons last season, averaging 20.6 points and 5.8 assists per game, helping the Breakers to a 13-15 record and a spot in the play-in tournament.
The signing gives the Breakers a head start this off-season, having now locked in a primary import piece ahead of the official opening of NBL Free Agency on April 15.
Jackson-Cartwright joins Sam Mennenga, Finn Delany, Dane Pineau, and Mantas Rubštavičius (Next Star) as contracted players on the Breakers going into free agency.
The Breakers have yet to receive an indication on whether Will McDowell-White will exercise his player option or look to return in another capacity, sources said. The re-signing of Jackson-Cartwright was one the team felt it couldn't turn down, and the door remains open for McDowell-White to return alongside him, sources said.
Izayah Leafa - who's been with the Breakers for two seasons - has informed the team he won't be returning, sources said. He'll explore his options on the free agent market.
Jackson-Cartwright, 28, signed a deal with Galatasaray once the NBL season came to an end but only played one game before parting ways with the Turkish team. He's the first import signed to the Breakers for the 2024-25 NBL season.
Jackson-Cartwright first joined the Breakers last off-season after a successful career in Europe. The 5'11 point guard played at the highest level in Germany, France, and Turkey - winning the Bundesliga MVP in 2022 - before signing with Mody Maor's team in New Zealand.
