Bo Overton resigned Monday as women's basketball coach at Missouri-Kansas City to become head coach and GM of the WNBA's Chicago Sky.
Overton coached his last game on Saturday, as Kansas State beat UMKC 64-56. The Kangaroos were 22-47 in two-plus seasons under Overton, including 2-9 this season.
The expansion Sky were a WNBA-worst 5-29 last season under Dave Cowens, who resigned to become a Detroit Pistons assistant coach.
The team was expected to introduce Overton at a news conference Tuesday morning.
"Although I'd prefer not to leave in midseason, this is an outstanding opportunity," Overton said in a prepared statement on UMKC's Web site.
Assistant coach Candace White will take over as interim coach for the Kangaroos.
