AFL Round 10 stocks up, stocks down: the MRO had a 'mare; Buddy to kick 1,000

Our footy experts cast their eye over the week's action to find out whose stocks are up -- whether it's a coaching masterstroke or a player having a blinder -- and whose are down. Every club features, so jump ahead to your team below (desktop only).

PLUS, this week, an added BONUS 'Stocks Down' has been added at the bottom of the page...

Crows | Lions | Blues | Magpies | Bombers | Dockers | Cats | Suns | Giants | Hawks | Demons | Roos | Power | Tigers | Saints | Swans | Eagles | Bulldogs

Adelaide

Stocks up: With less than two minutes remaining, Melbourne captain Max Gawn had the ball on the wing with his undefeated side up by five points, but he was mowed down by Adelaide rookie Nick Murray who laid a lunging match-winning tackle that led to the Crows' final push forward - and Tex Walker's clutch goal!

Stocks down: You'd hate to have been one of the Crows supporters who left Adelaide Oval early when the Dees pushed out to a 16-point lead with 20 minutes of the fourth quarter elapsed (and there were a few!). Hope that earlier bus or train was worth it!

Brisbane

Stocks up: Skipper Dayne Zorko was the most prolific Lion in a midfield that viciously bullied the reigning premiers. The 32-year-old gathered 28 disposals, six clearances and 11 inside 50s on Friday night to back up his 34 touches one week prior, standing up in the absence of Brownlow medallist Lachie Neale.

Stocks down: The Lions dominated this game, but a slow start meant they trailed by 19 points to an undermanned Tigers outfit who were hot early in enemy territory. Without the home ground advantage -- particularly when they get to the MCG -- it may not be as easy for Chris Fagan's men to stamp their authority.

Carlton

Stocks up: Carlton have moved out-of-form recruit Zac Williams to half back to gain confidence after a failed stint in the midfield, and on Saturday it meant co-captain Sam Docherty was pushed onto a wing - where he excelled. The Blues dasher had 26 touches (11 contested), five intercept possessions and five score involvements. This might be a position change to watch with interest.

Stocks down: Stocks down Eddie McGuire. He's not a Carlton player, but last week he declared Saturday afternoon football dead. The Blues and Hawks drew 45,741 for the 1.45pm start - exceeding the MCC's expectations. The biggest irony? McGuire was calling the game for Fox Footy, and at one point remarked 'where would you rather be?'...

Collingwood

Stocks up: Young Beau McCreery is a real find for the Pies. In just his eighth game he had eight, high-impact touches against the Power; three goals, one behind and a couple of crucial tackles.

Stocks down: Hasn't Jordan De Goey failed to live up the hype? Sure, he'll bob up with a performance that makes you pay attention once in a blue moon, but too often he's left lacking. Just nine touches and two behinds against Port was far from a decent contribution.

Essendon

Stocks up: It's hard not to love what Nick Hind is doing for the Bombers. Another 21 touches, 428 metres gained, two goal assists and a maiden goal in red and black for arguably the pickup of the year.

Stocks down: He can be hot and cold, but Matt Guelfi might find himself out of a spot after a quiet performance for the Bombers against North Melbourne. Just the 10 touches and not a huge amount of impact.

Fremantle

Stocks up: While Buddy was dominating in front of the sticks at one end, Rory Lobb was excellent at doing that same thing for Freo. The Swans didn't seem to have an adequate matchup for the big man, who had a complete game. He finished with four goals straight, nine marks and seven hitouts.

Stocks down: Who's in charge of the Optus Stadium lighting? Sort it out! With just a couple of minutes left in the match, and with Freo leading by a kick, the floodlights started pulsing much like what they do when a goal is scored. It looked awfully distracting on TV, so we can only imagine how it looked and felt out on the ground when players were trying to concentrate!

Geelong

Stocks up: Are we seeing the emergence on Quinton Narkle? A career-high 34 touches and five clearances from the young Cat - from just 69 percent game time...

Stocks down: Mitch Duncan will miss the next game through concussion after being tackled by Nick Holman, but goodness gracious, Shaun Higgins, where was the shepherd? You were right there...

Gold Coast

Stocks up: Tackling machine Hugh Greenwood continues to impress at the Suns. He had 18 touches, kicked a goal and laid 16(!) tackles against the Cats. Shoutout to Zac Smith as well, who played his first game of AFL since Round 20, 2019. He battled manfully in the ruck when his team needed him.

Stocks down: It's always a tough day as a forward for opposing teams down at Geelong, but Josh Corbett needed to push onto a wing or wander down into to defence to get his hands on the ball! Two touches, one mark, and one goal is okay reading for one quarter of footy, not a whole game. Get involved, Josh!

GWS

Stocks up: Normally when a 'Greene' features in this column, it's Toby, but let's not sleep on Tom Green, who looks to be a serious player in the GWS midfield. He had 27 touches, six clearances and kicked two vital goals in the Giants' win over the Eagles.

Stocks down: Usually reliable in front of goal, Harry Himmelberg toiled away for just two behinds from his 20 touches. Straighten up, Harry!

Hawthorn

Stocks up: Props to undersized defender Kyle Hartigan for putting in the hard yards against Carlton spearhead Harry McKay. McKay, who was leading the Coleman Medal coming into Round 10, had just six touches and four marks on the day. It's just a shame his brain fade (in the form of an off the ball hit) will cost him weeks on the sidelines.

Stocks down: In a true 'sliding doors' moment, Jacob Koschitzke had one of the all-time brain fades which cost the Hawks a very good chance at pinching the four points against the Blues. Down less than a kick, he took a mark in the goal square but opted to play on, and was tackled, and the Blues took the ball away. Instead of taking the lead, the Hawks then coughed up two goals late in the term, shutting the door on a comeback.

Melbourne

Stocks up: When Clayton Oliver put through his third goal of the contest to give the Dees a 16-point buffer, you had to have thought they were home!? Nonetheless, it capped off a terrific game from the gun mid who amassed 38 possessions (27 contested), 13 clearances and nine tackles. That's some outing...

Stocks down: It's clear the Dees lack a killer instinct. We kind of touched on it last week, but as a positive; they grind out solid, five-goal wins without much fuss, but clearly, when challenged late in games, they're vulnerable. Melbourne were 16 points up with five minutes left ... good teams don't cough that up, on the road or otherwise...

North Melbourne

Stocks up: Taylor Garner's return to form has been great to watch. He played just two games last year, and since his return to the fold in 2021, he's kicked three goals in each of his two games. Has a beautiful kicking action to boot.

Stocks down: Poor old Ben McKay wouldn't have made too many friends among the Essendon fans, after he went tumbling into the boundary and knocked obver one punter's beer. Fair to say the Dons supporter was less than happy, seemingly asking for a few bucks to cover the loss..!

Port Adelaide

Stocks up: Kane Farrell continues to impress for the Power; against the Pies he had 23 touches, used his vision well, competed all day and led the game for metres gained (550). Underrated and underappreciated.

Stocks down: Port Adelaide are lucky they faced a struggling side in Collingwood, because better teams will punish you for having a slow start like the Power did. Held goalless until the 14th minute of the second term? You've gotta fix that, Kenny!

Richmond

Stocks up: His stocks are already high, but they're only rising higher! You just have to love the way Noah Balta goes about it. He's an Alex Rance 2.0 and is rarely beaten one-on-one - an absolute asset for the yellow and black. .

Stocks down: He got his 20 touches -- 15 of them handballs -- but Marlion Pickett just doesn't hurt the opposition consistently. Just 40 percent disposal efficiency for the premiership player who will remain a fringe Tiger when the injured cavalry returns.

St Kilda

Stocks up: Those St Kilda fans that sat through Saturday night's 111-point loss deserve a medal - and a beer. It was a sobering night for the Saints, who have regressed enormously in the past nine months.

Stocks down: What does St Kilda stand for right now? That's four 10-goal losses for Brett Ratten's side this year, who clearly aren't up for the fight when things don't go their way. Combine it with poor ball use and inaccuracy throughout 2021 and it's amazing they're as high on the ladder as they are.

Sydney

Stocks up: We're going to call it - Lance Franklin will kick 1,000 goals!. Buddy was back at his boisterous best against the Dockers, kicking six, including a few 'classic' Buddy goals from outside 50 - both from set shots and from general play. He has the fire in him -- it's obvious to see -- and you get the feeling he'd love nothing more than to write his name in the history books.

Stocks down: Did Oliver Florent's lack of composure cost the Swans the game? He had Isaac Heeney streaming into the forward with 20 seconds to go and no opponent in sight, but instead elected to kick the ball long to an outnumber, where Freo's saviour Luke Ryan rushed the ball through for a behind. You had options, Ollie, lower your eyes!

West Coast

Stocks up: Pretty fair to say Jamie Cripps just keeps flying under the radar as one of the better small forwards in the competition. Another two goals and stepped up when his side needed him, unlike some forward counterparts...

Stocks down: Flyin' Liam Ryan was grounded against the Giants. Just eight touches and a behind for the star. Lucky to avoid a clip this week is Dom Sheed, whose reckless knee into Bobby Hill late in the game (which ended up in the game-sealing goal) was a low act.

Western Bulldogs

Stocks up: Twenty-six disposals. Four goals. Four clearances. A game high 797 metres gained. Marcus Bontempelli's stocks rose so fast they got a speeding ticket. That's two straight weeks in this column for the champ... (and as a result, you'd think Cody Weightman is stiff!)

Stocks down: Not great news for Adam Treloar who looks set to spend some time on the pine with an ankle injury. He was in a moon boot for the second half of the win over the Saints, and will almost certainly miss the mouthwatering matchup with Melbourne next week. At least he can spend some more time with his best bud, Josh Dunkley, however!

BONUS

Stocks down: Has Match Review Officer Michael Christian had a 'mare or what? Gold Coast's Nick Holman was slapped with a two-week ban for a textbook tackle that, by no fault of his own, left Geelong's Mitch Duncan concussed and out of the game. Holman executed his duty of care to Duncan perfectly; Holman didn't sling, didn't bury himself into Duncan's back, or dump him head first. He MUST get off!
