I had the Indianapolis Colts finishing with a 13-3 record when the schedule came out in April. Sorry, I’ve changed my mind on my initial prediction. Don’t worry, though: The Colts will still win the AFC South for the third straight season, but they’ll finish with only 12 victories instead of 13.
Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 13, at Buffalo, 4:25 p.m. ET
Week 1's matchup kicks off a string of five straight games in which the Colts face a mediocre, poor or inexperienced quarterback. The Bills added running back LeSean McCoy. Buffalo has quarterback issues and it won’t have defensive tackle Marcell Dareus for Rex Ryan’s first regular-season game as head coach of the Bills because Dareus will be serving his one-game suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Colts 24, Bills 17. Record: 1-0
Week 2: Monday, Sept. 21, New York Jets, 8:30 p.m. ET
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. No running game. Enough said. Colts 21, Jets 10. Record: 2-0
Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 27, at Tennessee, 1 p.m. ET
Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota was impressive during the preseason. Too bad the Heisman Trophy winner doesn’t have a lot of talent around him on offense. Colts 31, Titans 14. Record: 3-0
Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 4, Jacksonville, 1 p.m. ET
Is this the year the Jaguars start to close the gap between them and Indianapolis? I don’t think so. The Jaguars should be better with second-year quarterback Blake Bortles and the additions of running back T.J. Yeldon and tight end Julius Thomas. But they’ve still got a lot work ahead of them during this rebuilding project. Colts 31, Jaguars 10. Record: 4-0
Week 5: Thursday, Oct. 8, at Houston, 8:25 p.m. ET
Receiver T.Y. Hilton has 16 receptions for 344 yards and four touchdowns in his past two trips to Houston. This night belongs to fellow receiver Andre Johnson, though. Johnson returns to face the franchise that planned to demote him, and quarterback Andrew Luck makes sure to remind everybody that Johnson still has a lot left in the tank, as the offensive line does a good enough job to contain J.J. Watt and the rest of Houston’s talented defense. Colts 27, Texans 14. Record: 5-0
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 18, New England, 8:30 p.m. ET
This is the game every football fan in the world has been waiting for. Deflategate. Rematch of last season's AFC Championship Game. And Tom Brady seeking revenge against the team that turned him in for using deflated footballs. Indianapolis’ undefeated season comes to an end in Luck’s fifth straight loss to the Patriots. Patriots 45, Colts 38. Record: 5-1
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 25, New Orleans, 1 p.m. ET
You can never count out Saints quarterback Drew Brees, but his offense took a significant hit in trading tight end Jimmy Graham. The New Orleans defense will have a difficult time slowing down the Colts' offense. Colts 31, Saints 21. Record: 6-1
Week 8: Monday, Nov. 2, at Carolina, 8:30 p.m. ET
It’s Luck versus Cam Newton, the first two players taken in the 2012 and 2011 draft, squaring off. Luck has Hilton, Johnson, Dwayne Allen and a number of targets to throw to. Newton lost his top target, receiver Kelvin Benjamin, to a torn ACL during the preseason. Colts 26, Panthers 14. Record: 7-1
Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 8, Denver, 4:25 p.m. ET
Peyton Manning walks off the field at Lucas Oil Stadium to a standing ovation. But it’s not because the Broncos beat the Colts. It’s because the fans know this might be the last time they see Manning play a game in that stadium. Luck moves to 3-1 against the player he replaced in 2012. Colts 34, Broncos 24. Record: 8-1
Week 10: BYE
Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 22, at Atlanta, 1 p.m. ET
New coach Dan Quinn, who was Seattle’s defensive coordinator, is showing signs of reviving things in Atlanta. New $71 million receiver Julio Jones gets the best of Colts Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis on this afternoon. Falcons 28, Colts 24. Record: 8-2
Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 29, Tampa Bay, 1 p.m. ET
Quarterback Jameis Winston faces Luck for the first time. Defensive coordinator Greg Manusky doesn’t hold back in sending linebacker Robert Mathis and the rest of the defense on blitzes all afternoon. Colts 30, Buccaneers 14. Record: 9-2
Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 6, at Pittsburgh, 8:30 p.m. ET
Here’s another opportunity for the Colts to redeem themselves for a bad loss in 2014. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger doesn’t throw for 522 yards again against the Colts, but proves Pittsburgh is a Super Bowl contender. Steelers 33, Colts 27. Record: 9-3
Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 13, at Jacksonville, 1 p.m. ET
The Jaguars are facing the Colts at the wrong time. Indianapolis is coming off a loss at Pittsburgh. Luck picks the Jaguars apart in the air, and running back Frank Gore gashes them on the ground. Colts 41, Jaguars 17. Record: 10-3
Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 20, Houston, 1 p.m. ET
This one is easy. The Texans head to Lucas Oil Stadium with an 0-13 all-time record against the Colts in Indianapolis. They’ll be 0-14 when the game ends. Colts 31, Texans 17. Record: 11-3
Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 27, at Miami, 1 p.m. ET
The Colts will have the division wrapped up at this point, the only thing left playing for possibly home-field advantage in the playoffs. The Dolphins are trying to catch the Patriots for the AFC East title and a playoff spot. Dolphins 24, Colts 20. Record: 11-4
Week 17: Jan. 3, Tennessee, 1 p.m. ET
Be prepared to watch backup quarterback Matt Hasselbeck take the majority -- if not all -- of the snaps because the Colts will rest Luck to get him ready for the playoffs. Colts 28, Titans 10. Record: 12-4
