The New York Giants were 11-5 last season. That is going to be tough to replicate this year, no matter how good their defense plays.
In addition to the NFC East, the Giants play the AFC West and NFC West. That means lot of trips out West and more than a few difficult games. The NFC East and AFC West are expected to be two of the toughest divisions, and 10 of the Giants' 16 games come against those opponents.
Can they survive?
Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 10 at Dallas Cowboys, 8:30 p.m. ET
Giants at Cowboys in Week 1 never gets old. At least that's how the NFL feels. The teams open the season against each other in Dallas for the third straight year. This time, the Cowboys get revenge as they remember losing twice to the Giants last season. Record: 0-1
Week 2: Monday, Sept. 18 vs. Detroit Lions, 8:30 p.m. ET
Two prime-time games in two weeks. This one goes better than the first. It may be awkward for Brandon Marshall in the other uniform at MetLife Stadium in this home debut, but he has a big game and the offense explodes for the first time in two seasons. Record: 1-1
Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 24 at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. ET
Back on the road for a division game. Home is where the Eagles (and young quarterbacks) want to be. Carson Wentz was 6-2 at Lincoln Financial Field as a rookie. It spells for an 0-2 start in the NFC East for the Giants. Record: 1-2
Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 1 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 4:05 p.m. ET
This doesn't get much easier. It's (again!) on the road and the Bucs are a team on the rise. They are going to be good this season, but the Giants escape in a tight one. Jameis Winston might have trust problems with his offensive line after this game. Record: 2-2
Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 8 vs. Los Angeles Chargers, 1 p.m. ET
This is the game the Giants have to win against the AFC West. And they do, rather handily. The career trend of Eli Manning over Philip Rivers continues. Record: 3-2
Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 15 at Denver Broncos, 8:30 p.m. ET
A Sunday night game in Denver. The Giants' offensive line against that defense ... ouch! Manning doesn't feel very good on Monday morning. Record: 3-3
Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 22 vs. Seattle Seahawks, 4:25 p.m. ET
This first-half schedule just doesn't let up, but the Giants go into the bye week with the same record as they did at this point last season. These aren't the same Seahawks as several seasons ago. Record: 4-3
Week 8: Bye
Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 5 vs. Los Angeles Rams, 1 p.m. ET
Much like last year, the Giants' schedule eases up after the bye week. Rams second-year quarterback Jared Goff on the road against this Giants defense? No match. The Giants limit the Rams to single digits. Record: 5-3
Week 10: Sunday, Nov. 12 at San Francisco 49ers, 4:25 p.m. ET
The 49ers' roster is bad. This is a third straight win for the Giants. They're streaking. Record: 6-3
Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 19 vs. Kansas City Chiefs, 1 p.m. ET
The Giants suffer a tough loss at home. This Chiefs team is pesky. They punch the Giants in the mouth and end their winning streak at three. Record: 6-4
Week 12: Thursday, Nov. 23 at Washington Redskins, 8:30 p.m. ET
A national audience gets to watch the Redskins fall apart at the seams on Thanksgiving night. An annual tradition, actually. Odell Beckham Jr. tears apart Josh Norman and the Redskins' secondary. Record: 7-4
Week 13: Sunday, Dec. 3 at Oakland Raiders, 4:25 p.m. ET
These Raiders are a legit Super Bowl contender, and the Giants fall short in the Black Hole. Their offense still isn't good enough to win really tough games on the road. Record: 7-5
Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 10 vs. Dallas Cowboys, 4:25 p.m. ET
Dak Prescott doesn't want any part of this Giants defense coming off a loss. The Cowboys are held to single digits in this rematch. Sound familiar? Record: 8-5
Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 17 vs. Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. ET
Wentz and the Eagles got the better of the Giants in Philadelphia, but they won't in East Rutherford. Safety Darian Thompson nabs the key interception for the touchdown. Call it a hunch. Record: 9-5
Week 16: Sunday, Dec. 24 at Arizona Cardinals, 4:25 p.m. ET
This is Christmas Eve and a long way from home against a quality team. The Cardinals are going to have a bounce-back season. The Giants struggle against their strong defense. Record: 9-6
Week 17: Sunday, Dec. 31 vs. Washington Redskins, 1 p.m. ET
The Redskins were falling apart in Week 12. They're a mess by now. The Giants win their way into the playoffs. Record: 10-6
