Recruiters visit the Northeast

Much of the talent in the Northeast area can be found in Washington, D.C., thanks to the emergence of Friendship Collegiate Academy, a charter school in the inner city with a dirt practice field and a locker room in a trailer. The school produced more than a dozen college football signees last year, led by five-star defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, who signed with Florida State.

This year looks to be more of the same. Four players from Friendship are committed to Maryland: linebackers Yannick Ngakoue, Jermaine Carter and Cavon Walker and offensive lineman Derwin Gray. Also in D.C., athlete Devin Butler from Gonzaga is committed to Notre Dame.

The state of Connecticut is holding its own with tight end Andrew Issacs (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) and quarterback Tim Boyle (Middletown, Conn./Xavier), who are committed to Maryland and Boston College, respectively. Massachusetts is led by defensive tackle Tevin Montgomery (Marion, Mass./Tabor Academy) and like Montgomery, receiver Andre Patton (Wilmington, Del./St. Elizabeth) has several offers. The remainder of the schools in the area typically produce lower-level college talent.
