ESPN 300 No. 42 John Broussard will stay in his home state.
The nation's No. 6-ranked cornerback committed to the Auburn Tigers at Phenix City (Alabama) Central High on Thursday morning.
Broussard selected Auburn over Mississippi State and LSU after also making unofficial visits to Florida State, Georgia and Alabama.
Broussard, a 2016 Under Armour All-America Game selection, made a handful of trips to nearby Auburn in recent months, and the Tigers were always considered the favorites. Defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson made the 6-foot, 164-pound corner a priority since being hired in January.
Broussard becomes the sixth verbal commitment for Auburn. He is the third ESPN 300 prospect pledge for coach Gus Malzahn and his staff, joining No. 221 Quinnen Williams and No. 224 David Marshall. The addition of Broussard is key for momentum after the decommitment of wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers, the No. 68 player in the country, on Wednesday.
Auburn remains in the hunt for several more ESPN 300 prospects, including battles in Georgia for No. 4 Julian Rochester and No. 21 Antwuan Jackson Jr., with defensive line being a position of need in the class. In-state, the Tigers are considered the team to beat for defensive end Marlon Davidson, No. 34 in the ESPN 300.
Auburn, currently unranked in the 2016 class rankings, finished with the No. 7 overall class in 2015. The Tigers signed 12 ESPN 300 prospects, including No. 1 overall player Byron Cowart, as well as running back Jovon Robinson, the top-ranked 2015 junior college prospect.
